Running Away and Coming Home

When I left home for college, I rarely looked back. College was a chance to reinvent myself, and I relished the chance to leave behind my little town and experience the big world.

Recently, facebook has put me in touch with a bunch of old friends from my high school days. It brought back so many memories and it was interesting to find out what people were doing now.

I just recently found my best friend from junior high and early high school, Jimmy York. We talked a little, and he has a couple of kids and what seemed like a good life.

And then suddenly, like two days after we talked, he passed away. It has left me with a very heavy heart and wondering what I was running from all that time. I was looking forward to catching up more, and now I will never have the chance.

So, this is just a note to others who might have felt the same way or acted the same way. Be sure to know what you are running from and why. Be sure to cherish every moment, old and new. Be sure to let people know they matter to you. You may never be able to or even want to go home again. But home never leaves you. Those memories and those people are always a part of you. Cherish them, while you can.
