Yesterday I had my first (and last) empathetic moment with our former President. Maybe no one else felt this way, but watching on CNN they kept flashing to Bush and I just had to feel sorry for him.
Obama started his speech by thanking President Bush for his service. Then, the next 5+ minutes were spent detailing how awful things are now, how these are some tough times, and how the culture of fear and failure had to pass.
So basically, Obama says Thanks but no thanks. You "served" us--yeah, you served us a big bag of crap. Thanks. Thanks a lot.
Seen in this light it was hilarious, but also kinda sad. I felt sorry for the old loser, sitting there with millions of people cheering because there is finally something different from him, and watching his legacy painted as a complete disaster. Maybe just maybe he now knows a little of the pain so many people have felt the last eight years.
